III. MIDDLE SCHOOL - Upcycled Wearables
PROJECT: WHAT ITEMS CAN WE UPCYCLE IN OUR SCHOOL AND HOW CAN WE CREATE SOMETHING NEW, PRACTICAL OR INNOVATIVE?

Students discussed the difference between recycling and upcycling. Considering that upcycling happens with materials that can't traditionally be recycled (such as computer parts or old machine parts). 7th graders concluded that engineers and designers both identified problems with the consumption of electronics nowadays and consequently sought new ways to solve this problem. Students found out how the artist Yuma Fujimaki uses electronic trash to produce his jewellery. 7th graders got inspired by him to create their jewellery with the electronic waste collected in the community.
Os alunos discutiram a diferença entre reciclagem e upcycling. Considerando que o upcycling acontece com materiais que tradicionalmente não podem ser reciclados (como peças de computador ou peças de máquinas antigas). Os alunos do 7º ano concluíram que engenheiros e projetistas tanto identificaram problemas com o consumo de eletrônicos hoje em dia e consequentemente buscaram novas formas de resolver esse problema. Alunos descobriram como o artista Yuma Fujimaki usa lixo eletrônico para produzir suas joias. Inspirados por ele, o 7 ano criou suas joias com o lixo eletrônico coletado na comunidade.
